Why: SuperAmerica has launched a national campaign to rally the public to oppose Cap and Trade and call their senators in opposition (http://www.ourenergyvoice.com/). We want them to know that Minnesotans stand for green jobs, clean energy, and a climate future free of global tragedy!
The news on the devastating moral and physical implications of climate change is getting grimmer by the day. The Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki Moon has called the world to action. “The world needs you to actively push for a fair, effective and ambitious deal in Copenhagen. There is lots of great momentum moving us towards big change: The US Senate has the potential to pass a strong American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES) this fall. They need to hear that Minnesotans are behind them! We hope this boycott will help expose the truth about our dirty energy economy, and bring attention to the positive economic growth that will come from responsible climate legislation.
Who: A group of activists in the twin cities in conjunction with students from Macalester, St. Thomas, Augsburg, the University of Minnesota and other area colleges. The group includes writers, artists, politicians, and many students. We are looking for folks to help us with poster making, blogging, media, picketing out side of SuperAmerica stations, and hosting letter writing campaigns.
What: A boycott of SuperAmerica stations in Minnesota during the month of October 2009. We will be holding kick-off protests outside of select Super America stations during rush hour on October 5 and 6. We will have art, we will have conversations, we will reach out to residents in the Twin Cities to engage in dialogue about our real ‘energy future.' We will have a postcard writing campaign to let Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken know that we expect a STONG and realistic ACES bill. And we will definitely have FUN!
When: We will have a rally and poster making party on Sunday October 4th from 5 to 8 pm. Location is the Common Ground located at 2154 Summit Avenue on the St. Thomas Campus. Jack Nelson Pallmeyer, and Jenna Garland (Clean Water Action) will be speaking.
The boycott will happen during the month of October with protesters present at the 44th and Lake Street station, The Cleveland and Grand Station, and the Lyndale Station on October 5 and 6.
